New South Wales publishes emergency data through the Rural Fire Service (RFS) and State Emergency Service (SES). Three feeds are available: major incidents (GeoJSON), CAP-AU warnings (RSS/XML), and SES HazardWatch incidents (ArcGIS REST).
Agencies: RFS (bushfires), RFS-WARN (warnings), SES (floods, storms)
| Feed | Format | Update | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| NSW RFS Major Incidents | GeoJSON | 30 sec | Bushfires, major incidents |
| NSW RFS Warnings (CAP-AU) | CAP-AU XML | 5 min | Official warnings with polygons |
| NSW SES HazardWatch | ArcGIS REST | 5 min | Floods, storms, rescues |
Timestamps: RFS uses a 12-hour AM/PM format (e.g. "7/04/2026 6:38:00 AM") with local timezone. Requires custom parsing to convert to ISO 8601.
Geometry: RFS incidents include polygon boundaries for larger fires, not just point coordinates. The GeoJSON feed is well-structured but uses NSW-specific alert level terminology.
Auth: All three feeds are public with no authentication required.
Limitations: RFS only covers Rural Fire Service incidents. For SES data (floods, storms), you need the separate HazardWatch feed. No single feed covers all NSW emergencies.
